Castlemap MCP server
by Flightmussy
Your AI can look up castles, fortresses and palaces worldwide, with locations, dates and short histories.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to a public atlas of castles. It holds 7,786 castles, fortresses, palaces and ruins in 141 countries, each with coordinates, founding dates, a fame ranking and a short Wikipedia summary. It is handy if you are curious about a castle you saw, planning a trip, or writing something that needs a real castle with real facts.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to the Castlemap castle atlas, so it can look up castles and their details for you when you ask. You do not install anything here: the helper is already running online, and you just point your AI at it.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question about castles in normal words. Your AI sends that request to this helper, which is already running at a web address. The helper searches the Castlemap dataset and finds matching castles, or a single castle, or the ones closest to a spot on the map. Then your AI writes the answer back to you in the chat, in plain language, using the facts it got back.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Search castles by name, country or category
- Get the full record for one castle, including coordinates and founding date
- Find the nearest castles to a place you name
- List the best-known castles by fame ranking
- See all 141 countries covered, with how many castles each has
- Get live totals, per-country and per-century counts
- Pull up one random castle just for fun
Try asking your AI
- “Find castles in Wales with a real photo and a founding date”
- “What is the nearest castle to Edinburgh?”
- “Tell me about Neuschwanstein Castle, with its coordinates and a short history”
- “Show me the ten best-known castles in the dataset”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat: names, countries, coordinates, founding dates, categories, fame rank and a short Wikipedia summary. For a search you get a list of matching castles. For one castle you get its full record. For nearby castles you get the closest ones to the spot you asked about.
Before you start
Good to know
This helper only reads public castle data, so it does not change or delete anything, but the nearby-castle search needs coordinates, so ask your AI to look up the place first.
