Database MCP server (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Oracle)
by FreePeak
Lets your AI look inside your databases, run queries, and explain what the data means.

This is a helper program that connects your AI assistant to your databases. It works with MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Oracle, and TimescaleDB, and it can talk to several of them at the same time. It is handy if you often need to check numbers, look at tables, or ask questions about data without opening a separate database tool.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another app. This one connects your AI to your databases, so it can look things up and run queries there when you ask. You set it up once, and after that you just talk to your AI in normal words.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question about your data, like how many orders came in last week. The AI passes your request to this helper program. The helper connects to the right database using the details you gave it, runs the query, and sends the result back. Your AI then explains the answer to you in plain words. If you have several databases set up, the helper picks the one you meant based on the name you use.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Run read queries and see the rows that come back
- Run statements that change data, like inserts and updates (unless read-only is turned on)
- Explore the structure of a database, such as its tables and columns
- Check how a query performs and where it might be slow
- Manage transactions, meaning groups of changes that succeed or fail together
- Connect to several databases at once and pick which one to use
- Limit how many rows come back and mask sensitive columns before they reach the AI
Try asking your AI
- “How many new customers signed up last month in the sales database?”
- “Show me the columns in the orders table and what type each one is”
- “Which products sold the most in the last 30 days?”
- “Why is my report query slow? Can you check how it runs?”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, usually as a short explanation plus a small table of rows or a number. For schema questions it lists tables, columns, and types. For performance questions it explains what it found about the query. If a result is very large, it may be cut off with a note telling you to narrow your question.
Before you start
What you need
- The database connection details: host, port, database name, username, and password
- A config file listing your databases (the README shows the format)
- The server program itself, either the Docker image or a build from the source code
- Someone who can run the setup once on your machine or server
Good to know
This server can change or delete data in your databases, so use a read-only setting or a limited database user unless you really need write access.
Install it with your AI
Add Database MCP server (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Oracle) to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Database MCP server (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Oracle), install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who works with data and wants to ask questions in plain words instead of writing SQL, such as analysts, support staff, and operations people.
