Osnova MCP server
by getdomovoi
Give your AI a map of your code so it can find who calls what, and what a change touches.
Osnova is a helper that reads your code folder and builds a map of it. The map shows which functions and classes exist, where they are, and which ones call which. It is handy if you use an AI assistant to work on code and want it to stop guessing about how the pieces fit together.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. It cannot look inside your project unless you paste things in. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection. Osnova is that helper for your code: once it is connected, your AI can ask Osnova questions about your files and get real answers back.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your code, like who calls a certain function. Your AI passes the question to Osnova. Osnova has already read your project and built a map of names and calls. It looks up the answer in that map and sends it back. Your AI then explains the result to you in the chat.
What you can do with it
- Find where a function or class is defined, with the exact file and line
- List the places that call a function, directly or further down the chain
- Show the outline of one file: its functions, classes and line ranges
- See what a change touches, so you know what else might break
- Find test files that mention a symbol you care about
- Search your code by keyword or by text pattern
- Spot definitions that nothing seems to call
Try asking your AI
- “Who calls refreshWorkspace in this project?”
- “Show me the outline of src/api.ts”
- “What would break if I change the Command.Root function?”
- “Which test files mention the Configurator class?”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, written as lists with file names and line numbers. For a callers question, you see each caller, the lines where it calls, and a short note about why Osnova believes it is a real call. It also tells you what it could not confirm, so you know the limits of the answer.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js 22.13 or newer installed on your computer
- Your code project saved in a folder on the same computer
- An AI app that can use MCP servers, like Claude Code or Cursor
Good to know
The map is built from reading your code, not from running it, so some calls cannot be confirmed and a missing caller is not proof that nothing uses it.
Install it with your AI
Add Osnova MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Osnova MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,609 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Developers and anyone who uses an AI assistant to read or change code and wants answers based on the real project, not guesses.
