RAG Chat MCP server

by gogabrielordonez

Lets your AI turn your website content into a small chat assistant you can embed on your site.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Add AI chat to mybakery.com using this FAQ”, on your own computer the RAG Chat MCP server works with your website content, and you get back chat reply and embed code.

This is a helper for Claude Code that builds a simple chat assistant from your own website text. You give it your content, and it sets up a small chat service plus a ready-made chat bubble you can paste into your site. It is handy for people who run a small site and want visitors to get quick answers without hiring a developer.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to a local chat setup for your website, so the AI can prepare your content, test answers, and start a chat service for you. You just ask in plain words, and the helper does the technical parts.

What this MCP server does

You paste your website content, like an FAQ or a menu, and ask your AI to set up chat for your site. The AI uses this helper to split your text into sections and turn them into something it can search. When a visitor asks a question, the helper finds the closest matching sections and passes them to an AI model, which writes a reply. It can also start a small chat service on your computer and give you a short piece of code to paste into your site. Everything runs on your machine, and you bring your own AI key.

What you can do with it

  • Turn your FAQ or menu text into a searchable knowledge base
  • Test a question and see the answer plus which sections were used
  • Start a local chat service on your computer
  • Get a ready-made chat bubble snippet to paste into your site
  • List all the sites you have set up and how many documents each has
  • Choose between OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini for the chat replies

Try asking your AI

  • “Add AI chat to mybakery.com using this FAQ and menu content”
  • “Test the question: what are your opening hours?”
  • “Start the chat server for mybakery.com”
  • “Give me the embed code for the chat widget”

What it gives back to you

You get short status messages in the chat, like how many sections were created or that the server is running. When you test a question, you see the reply plus the matching sections and how long it took. At the end you get a small script tag you can paste into your website. It also keeps a list of your sites and their document counts.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js installed on your computer
  • Claude Code (the app where you add MCP servers)
  • An API key from OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini (a kind of password for apps; the provider gives you one)
  • Your website content as text or markdown

Good to know

The chat service runs on your own computer and uses your paid AI key, so keep an eye on usage and do not leave the server open to the public without thinking it through.

Install it with your AI
