HostTracker MCP server

by HostTracker · official

Ask your AI to check if a website is up, see what is down, and manage your HostTracker monitors in chat.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Is example.com up right now?”, the HostTracker MCP server connects it to HostTracker, and you get back answer in chat.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to HostTracker, a service that watches websites and tells you when they go down. Once it is connected, you can just ask your AI in normal words to run a check or look at your monitors, instead of clicking around a website. It is handy for anyone who keeps an eye on websites or servers, even if you are not technical.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to HostTracker, so it can look things up there or make changes for you when you ask. You stay in charge: the AI only does what you tell it to do.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like whether a website is up right now. The AI uses this helper, which talks to HostTracker for you. HostTracker runs the check from one of its many locations around the world and sends the result back. The AI then tells you the answer in plain words, right in the chat. You can also ask it to create, pause, or delete monitors, and it will do that through the same connection.

What you can do with it

  • Check if a website is up right now, from different parts of the world
  • See which of your monitors are currently down
  • Create, pause, resume, or delete monitors
  • Look at incidents and add a comment to one
  • Schedule a maintenance window so planned work does not raise alerts
  • Manage who gets alerted and set up webhooks
  • Publish an update on a public status page

Try asking your AI

  • “Is example.com up right now, checked from Europe and Asia?”
  • “Which of my monitors are down at the moment?”
  • “Pause the staging monitor until tomorrow morning.”
  • “Show me the incidents from the last week and summarize them.”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat, in normal language. That can be a simple yes or no about a website, a list of monitors and their status, or a summary of recent incidents. If you ask it to change something, like pausing a monitor, it tells you what it did. For bigger jobs it may give you a job id and then report back when the work is done.

Before you start

What you need

  • A HostTracker account
  • Sign in when your AI client asks, or a HostTracker API token if you prefer that way
  • An AI client that can add connectors, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or VS Code

Good to know

It can change or delete things in your HostTracker account, and deletions cannot be undone, so read what the AI is about to do before you say yes.

Install it with your AI
