Domain Availability MCP server

by imprvhub

Let your AI check whether a website name is free across many endings like .com, .io and .ai.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Is mysite.com available?”, the Domain Availability MCP server connects it to Website name registry, and you get back available, taken, or unsure.

This is a small helper that lets your AI check if a website name is still available. You ask in normal words, and it looks up the name for you. It is handy if you are starting a business, a blog or a side project and need a name that is not taken yet.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one new skill. This helper gives it a connection to domain registries, the places that keep track of who owns which website name. So when you ask about a name, your AI can go and check it for you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like: is mysite.com available? Your AI passes that question to this helper. The helper then asks the official registry for that ending, using a system called RDAP, and falls back to older lookups when needed. It comes back with a simple answer: available, taken, or undetermined, which means nobody could confirm it either way. You see the result right in your chat, plus a short summary and how long the check took.

What you can do with it

  • Check if one exact website name is available
  • Check one name across many endings at once
  • Get suggestions grouped by popular, country or newer endings
  • See which names are taken and which are still free
  • Spot names that could not be confirmed, so you do not trust a wrong answer
  • Compare options before you buy a name

Try asking your AI

  • “Is mysite.com available?”
  • “Check the name startup across all endings”
  • “Is awesome.io taken?”
  • “Show me which endings are free for the name brightleaf”

What it gives back to you

You get a clear answer in the chat: available, taken, or undetermined. If you asked about many endings, you get lists sorted into available, unavailable and undetermined, plus a short summary by category. It also shows how long the check took and which source answered. Nothing is changed anywhere, it is all read-only.

Before you start

What you need

  • The Claude desktop app
  • Python 3.10 or newer (3.12 recommended)
  • The uv package manager (a small free tool; the page shows a one-line install command)
  • An internet connection

Good to know

The results are read-only and nothing is changed, but a name marked available can still be bought by someone else a moment later, and some endings come back as undetermined, which is not the same as free.
