Timeplus MCP server
by jovezhong
Ask your AI to query Timeplus with SQL and peek at Kafka topics, all in plain chat.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Timeplus, a tool for working with streaming data and SQL. It also lets your AI look at Apache Kafka topics and save their messages into Timeplus. It is handy if you already use Timeplus or Kafka at work and want to ask questions in normal language instead of clicking around.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to your Timeplus account and your Kafka setup, so the AI can look things up or run queries there for you when you ask. You stay in the chat; the helper does the talking to Timeplus behind the scenes.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like "what databases do I have in Timeplus?" or "show me a few messages from this Kafka topic." The AI passes that request to this helper program. The helper talks to your Timeplus server or your Kafka cluster using the details you set up. Then it brings the answer back into the chat, as a list, a small table, or a short summary. If you ask it to, it can also set up a stream in Timeplus that saves Kafka messages locally.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List the databases on your Timeplus server
- List the tables inside a database
- Run a SQL query and show you the results
- List the topics in your Kafka cluster
- Show a few sample messages from a Kafka topic
- Create a stream in Timeplus that saves Kafka messages
- Connect to an Apache Iceberg database (Timeplus Enterprise only for now)
Try asking your AI
- “List all databases in my Timeplus server”
- “Show me the tables in the default database”
- “Run this SQL: select count(*) from my_stream”
- “List my Kafka topics and show me one message from the orders topic”
What it gives back to you
You get answers right in the chat: lists of databases, tables, or Kafka topics, small samples of Kafka messages, and the rows from any SQL query you run. If you ask it to create a Kafka stream in Timeplus, it tells you whether that worked. Long query results may show up as a table or a short summary, depending on your AI app.
Before you start
What you need
- A Timeplus account or a Timeplus server you can reach (host, username, and password)
- The uv tool installed on your computer (the README links to install instructions)
- Kafka connection details if you want to use the Kafka features
- The Claude desktop app or another app that supports MCP servers
Good to know
By default this helper only reads, but if you set TIMEPLUS_READ_ONLY to false it can also change or delete data, so keep it on read-only unless you really need to make changes.
Install it with your AI
Add Timeplus MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Timeplus MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
People who already work with Timeplus or Kafka and want to ask questions in plain language instead of writing queries by hand.
