Kranz MCP server
by kranz-org
Lets your AI see and control the local services running on your computer, plus their logs and ports.
Kranz is a tool that starts and watches the little programs you run on your own computer while you build something, like a web server and a background worker. It shows them in one terminal window instead of ten tabs. The Kranz MCP server connects your AI assistant to those running programs, so your AI can check what is up, read logs, and restart things for you.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot see what is running on your machine. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one new skill. This helper is the Kranz MCP server, and its skill is talking to your live Kranz runtimes, so your AI can look up services, logs, ports, and history, and act on them when you ask.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your running project, like which services are up or why one keeps crashing. Your AI passes that question to the Kranz MCP server. The server talks to the Kranz supervisor that is already running your project, the same one your terminal window is showing. It reads back the current state, recent logs, ports, and run history, or performs an action like a restart. Then your AI explains the result to you in plain words in the chat.
What you can do with it
- List the services in a project and whether each one is running
- Read recent logs from a service to see what went wrong
- Check which ports your services are listening on
- Restart, start, or stop a service
- Look at the numbered run history of a service or action
- Run a project action you have defined, like a migration or a seed script
- Check readiness and health results for each service
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat: lists of services with their state, recent log lines, port numbers, and short summaries of past runs. If you asked for a change, like a restart, you get a confirmation that it happened and the new state. Everything is text you can read, no files to open.
Before you start
What you need
- The Kranz program installed on your computer (macOS or Linux)
- At least one Kranz project already running, so there is something to connect to
- An AI app that supports MCP servers, like Claude Code or another coding agent
Good to know
It can change things on your machine, like restarting or stopping services, so only connect it to projects you are happy to have your AI act on.
Install it with your AI
Add Kranz MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Kranz MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,361 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Developers and anyone who runs a local project with several services and wants their AI assistant to help watch and manage it.
