This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Apollo.io, a big online directory of business contacts and companies. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI in plain English to find people or companies, and it will pull the details back for you. It is handy if you work in sales, recruiting, or marketing and spend time hunting for contact info.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a little helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to Apollo.io, so when you ask a question, the AI can go look things up in Apollo's database for you. You do not run searches yourself; you just ask, and the helper does the looking.

What this MCP server does

You type a request in your normal chat, like asking for marketing managers in Chicago. Your AI sends that request to this helper program, which talks to Apollo.io on your behalf. Apollo searches its database of contacts and companies and sends the matching details back. The helper passes those results to your AI, and your AI shows them to you in the chat as a list or a short summary. You never have to open Apollo yourself or copy anything between tabs.

What you can do with it

  • Find people by job title, location, or company
  • Look up a person's email, phone, and LinkedIn details
  • Get a company's size, industry, and technologies
  • Search for companies by industry, size, or city
  • Check details for a contact you already have an email for
  • Browse more results by asking for the next page

Try asking your AI

  • “Find CTOs in San Francisco working at small startups”
  • “Get contact info for John Smith at Apollo.io”
  • “Tell me about apollo.io as a company”
  • “Search for AI companies in the Bay Area with 50 to 200 employees”

What it gives back to you

You get back lists of people or companies with the details Apollo has on them, like job titles, emails, phone numbers, locations, and company size. For a single person or company lookup, you get a short profile with the fields Apollo knows about. Your AI shows this as text in the chat, often as a bulleted list or a small table. If nothing matches, it will just tell you it found no results.

Before you start

What you need

  • An Apollo.io account (free or paid)
  • An Apollo.io API key, which you copy from your Apollo settings (it works like a password for apps)
  • The Claude desktop app or Claude Code, or another AI tool that supports MCP servers
  • Node.js installed on your computer, since the helper runs through npx

Good to know

Apollo's data comes from a large business database and can be out of date or incomplete, so double check important contact details before you rely on them.
