Multi-Database MCP server
by mahAnuj
Ask your AI to look at your PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQLite databases and answer questions in plain words.

This is a small helper that lets your AI assistant read from your SQL databases. You can point it at Postgres, MySQL, and SQLite all at once, and then just ask questions in normal language. It is handy for anyone who has data in a database but does not want to write SQL by hand.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to your databases, so it can look up tables and run read-only queries for you. You ask in plain words, and the helper does the database work behind the scenes.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question about your data, like how many orders came in last month. The AI uses this helper to see which databases you have set up. The helper then lists the tables, checks the columns, and runs a read-only query on the right database. You get the answer back in the chat, as numbers, lists, or a short summary. It never changes or deletes anything, so it is safe to point at real data.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List all the databases you have connected
- Show the tables and views inside a database
- Describe the columns of a table
- Run read-only queries like SELECT and EXPLAIN
- Ask questions in plain English and get answers from your data
- Check your data without writing any SQL yourself
Try asking your AI
- “List my configured databases”
- “What tables are in local-sqlite?”
- “Describe the users table in analytics-pg”
- “Run SELECT COUNT(*) FROM orders on reporting-mysql”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, like a list of database names, a list of tables, or the columns of a table. When you run a query, you see the rows it found, capped at 100 by default. If something goes wrong, like a table name that does not exist, you get a clear message instead of a crash.
Before you start
What you need
- A databases.json file with your connection details
- The path to that file set in the MCP_DB_CONFIG setting
- Node.js installed if you use npx (the tool fetches the package for you)
- Read-only database users are recommended for safety
Good to know
It can only read data, never change or delete it, but it does connect to your real databases, so use read-only database users and keep your databases.json file private.
Install it with your AI
Add Multi-Database MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Multi-Database MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who has data in a SQL database and wants to ask questions about it without writing SQL, like analysts, support staff, or managers.
