MCP Roo Memory server
by mcasdfgf
Give your AI a long-term memory so it remembers past tasks, facts and decisions between chats.

MCP Roo Memory is a small helper that gives your AI a lasting memory. Instead of forgetting everything when a chat ends, your AI can save notes, facts and decisions, and look them up later. It is made for people who use Roo Code (a coding assistant) and want it to remember what happened across sessions.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It has no memory of yesterday and cannot look anything up. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to a service. This one connects your AI to a memory store called Cortex, so it can save and find things for you when you ask.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something, or it decides to save a note. The AI uses this helper to write that note into a memory store made of two parts: a graph (who relates to what) and a search index (what things mean). Later, when you ask a question, the helper searches that store by meaning and hands the most relevant pieces back to the AI. The AI then uses those pieces to answer you. Over time, old notes can be updated, replaced or archived so the memory stays tidy.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Save facts, tasks and decisions so your AI remembers them later
- Search your saved notes by meaning, not just exact words
- Follow a chain of reasoning from one note to the next
- Break a big task into smaller subtasks and keep them linked
- Replace an outdated decision while keeping the old one on record
- See a timeline of what happened in a session, in order
- Keep some notes always in view and archive the rest
Try asking your AI
- “Remember that we chose JWT with RS256 for authentication in this project.”
- “What did we decide about the database last week?”
- “Show me the timeline of what we worked on today.”
- “Break the login feature into subtasks and save them.”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat that are based on things you saved earlier, even from past sessions. It can also show you lists of related notes, a timeline of events, or the chain of decisions behind a task. When it saves or changes something, it tells you what it did.
Before you start
What you need
- Docker installed on your computer (the easy way to run it)
- Roo Code set up in VS Code or VSCodium
- A few minutes to edit a settings file
Good to know
It is an experimental project with no warranty, and it can change or delete things you saved, so keep your own backups of anything important.
Install it with your AI
Add MCP Roo Memory server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check MCP Roo Memory server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
People who use Roo Code for coding or research and are tired of repeating context in every new chat.
