SQLite MCP server
by ofershap
Lets your AI read a SQLite database file, show its tables, and run queries for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to SQLite database files on your computer. SQLite is a very common way to store data in one single file, used by many apps and websites. If you have a .db file and want to ask questions about it in plain English, this makes that possible.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot open files on your computer or look inside a database. An MCP server is a small helper program you connect once, and it gives your AI a new skill. This one gives your AI the skill of reading SQLite database files, so when you ask about your data, the AI can actually go look.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about a database file, like which tables it has or what is inside the users table. The AI passes your request to this helper program. The helper opens the SQLite file on your computer, runs the query, and sends the results back. Your AI then shows you the answer as a neat table right in the chat. By default it only reads, so nothing in your database gets changed.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List all the tables in a database file
- Show the columns and types of any table
- Run a SELECT query and see the rows as a table
- Explain how a query will run so you can spot slow parts
- Find all .db and .sqlite files in a folder
- Count rows and check what a table looks like
Try asking your AI
- “Show me the schema of my database at ./data.db”
- “What tables are in this database?”
- “Query the users table: SELECT * FROM users LIMIT 10”
- “Find all .db files in the current directory”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, usually as a small table of rows and columns, or as a list of tables and their columns. For schema questions it shows each table with its column names, types, and row counts. For query plans it shows the steps SQLite would take. Nothing is written back to your database unless you turn on write mode.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js installed on your computer (the free runtime that runs this helper)
- An MCP client like Claude Desktop, Cursor, or VS Code Copilot
- A SQLite database file (.db, .sqlite, or .sqlite3) somewhere on your computer
Good to know
It is read-only by default, but you can turn on write mode, and then it can change or delete rows in your database.
Install it with your AI
Add SQLite MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check SQLite MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who has a SQLite file and wants to explore it without writing SQL by hand, like analysts, support folks, and developers poking at local app data.
