Olostep MCP server
by olostep
Let your AI read web pages, search the web, and pull content from many links at once.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to Olostep, a service that reads and collects information from websites. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to fetch a page, search the web, or gather content from a whole list of links. It is handy for anyone who spends time copying things off websites by hand.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to Olostep, a web reading and search service. So when you ask for something from the web, your AI passes the request to Olostep and brings the answer back to you.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like "grab the main text from this page" or "search the web for this topic". Your AI sends that request through this helper to Olostep. Olostep opens the page or runs the search, and can wait a moment for pages that load slowly. Then the result comes back into your chat as clean text, a list, or a short answer with sources. For bigger jobs, it can work through a long list of links in the background and hand you the results when they are ready.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Read a single web page and get its content as clean text
- Search the web and get a list of results
- Ask a question and get an answer with sources
- Collect content from many links at once
- Crawl a whole website starting from one page
- List all the links found on a website
- Find the pages on a site that match a topic
Try asking your AI
- “Read this page and give me the main points: https://example.com/article”
- “Search the web for the latest news about electric bikes and list the top results”
- “Who are the main competitors to Acme in Europe? Give me names and their homepages with sources”
- “Go through these 20 product links and pull out the price and title from each”
What it gives back to you
You get back plain text, lists, or short answers right in the chat. A single page comes back as readable content, often in markdown, which is just simple text with light formatting. A search gives you a list of results, and the answers tool gives you a written answer plus the sources it used. For big jobs, you get a job ID first, then the collected pages when they are done.
Before you start
What you need
- An Olostep account and API key (a kind of password for apps; you get it free by signing up on the Olostep website)
- An AI app that supports MCP servers, like Claude Desktop, Cursor, or VS Code
- Nothing to install if you use the hosted address; otherwise Node.js for the npx option or Docker for the Docker option
Good to know
It uses your Olostep account and API key, and large jobs like crawling or batch scraping can use up your Olostep credits, so keep an eye on how much you ask for.
Install it with your AI
Add Olostep MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Olostep MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who regularly gathers information from websites, like researchers, marketers, analysts, and assistants who copy web content by hand.
