Discord MCP server

by PaSympa

Let your AI read, send, and manage messages, channels, roles, and members on your Discord servers.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Post a message in the announcements channel saying the event starts at 7pm”, on your own computer the Discord MCP server works with discord, and you get back confirmation or list in your chat.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to Discord. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI in plain words to post a message, tidy up channels, or check who is in your server, and it does it for you. It is handy for anyone who runs or helps run a Discord community and wants less clicking.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app. This one connects your AI to Discord, so it can look things up and do things there when you ask. You stay in the chat, and the helper quietly talks to Discord behind the scenes.

What this MCP server does

You type a request in your AI chat, like posting an announcement or listing the channels in a server. Your AI passes that request to this helper program running on your computer. The helper talks to Discord using a bot you set up, and Discord does the work. Then the helper sends the result back, and your AI shows it to you in the chat. It can handle several servers at once, so you are not stuck to just one.

What you can do with it

  • Read and search messages in your channels
  • Send, reply to, edit, and delete messages
  • Create, rename, move, and delete channels
  • Manage roles and channel permissions
  • List members and look up their details
  • Kick, ban, or time out members
  • Manage forums, webhooks, invites, and scheduled events

Try asking your AI

  • “Post a message in the announcements channel saying the event starts at 7pm”
  • “List all the channels in my server grouped by category”
  • “Who are the newest members who joined this week”
  • “Delete the last 10 messages in the test channel”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in your chat: lists of channels, members, or messages, details about a server, or a short confirmation that something was done. When you ask for messages, it shows the text and who wrote them. When it changes something, like sending a message or editing a channel, it tells you it worked. Everything appears as normal chat text you can read and copy.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Discord account and a server you manage
  • A Discord bot token (you create a bot on Discord's developer site and copy its token, which is like a password for the bot)
  • Node.js installed on your computer (the free program that runs this helper)
  • The Claude desktop app or another AI app that supports MCP servers

Good to know

This helper can change and delete things on your Discord server, so be careful with requests like deleting channels or banning members, and consider limiting which servers it can touch.

Install it with your AI

Add Discord MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Discord MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
