CyberChef API MCP server
by slouchd
Let your AI run CyberChef recipes to decode, convert, and inspect data for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to CyberChef, a popular free tool for decoding and transforming data. Instead of clicking around the CyberChef website yourself, you can just ask your AI in plain words. It is handy for anyone who deals with scrambled text, encoded files, or messy data and wants quick answers.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another app. This one connects your AI to CyberChef, so when you ask it to decode or transform something, it can actually do that work instead of just talking about it. You stay in your normal chat window the whole time.
What this MCP server does
You type a request in your AI chat, for example asking it to decode a chunk of text. Your AI passes that request to this helper. The helper talks to a CyberChef server, which runs the operations you asked for, like decoding base64 or converting formats. The result comes back and your AI shows it to you in the chat. You never have to open CyberChef yourself.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Decode encoded text like base64 or hex
- Run a series of CyberChef steps in order on your data
- Process a batch of inputs at once with the same recipe
- Let CyberChef guess how your data is encoded and decode it automatically
- Browse CyberChef's list of operations by category
- Pick the right operation for a task with your AI's help
Try asking your AI
- “Decode this base64 string and tell me what it says”
- “Run a recipe on this text: from hex, then to base64”
- “Figure out what encoding this data uses and decode it”
- “Do the same decoding on all of these lines at once”
What it gives back to you
You get the transformed data back in your chat, usually as plain text or a short explanation. For batch jobs, you get a result for each item you sent. For the magic operation, you get CyberChef's best guess at how the data was encoded and the decoded output. Everything shows up right where you are chatting.
Before you start
What you need
- A CyberChef server running somewhere you can reach (the address is set as CYBERCHEF_API_URL)
- Python with the uv tool installed to run the server
- An MCP client like the Claude desktop app
Good to know
You need your own CyberChef server running and reachable, and anything you send to it goes through that server, so avoid pasting secrets you would not want processed there.
Install it with your AI
Add CyberChef API MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check CyberChef API MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who works with encoded, scrambled, or messy data and wants quick decoding without learning CyberChef's interface, especially analysts and IT support folks.
