This is a small helper that lets your AI look up public Telegram channels for you. You ask a question, and it comes back with real numbers like subscriber counts, when the channel was created, and how often it posts. It is handy if you research channels, compare communities, or just want to check whether a channel is actually active.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program you connect to your AI that gives it one new skill. This helper gives your AI a connection to public Telegram channel information, so it can look things up for you when you ask. You do not need a Telegram account, a phone number, or any special app running in the background.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like how many subscribers a channel has. Your AI passes that request to this helper. The helper talks to a public Telegram data service using an API key you provide. The service sends back the channel profile, and your AI shows it to you as a neat summary in the chat. You can also ask it to find channels similar to one you already know.

What you can do with it

  • Look up a public channel's subscriber count, description, and creation date
  • Check when a channel last posted and how often it posts
  • See Telegram's own verification and scam flags for a channel
  • Find channels Telegram recommends alongside a channel you name
  • Search public channels and groups by keyword
  • Get exact subscriber counts for a list of similar channels

Try asking your AI

  • “How many subscribers does @durov have and when was it created?”
  • “Is @durov still active? When did it last post?”
  • “Find channels similar to @durov and show me their subscriber counts”
  • “Search Telegram for public channels about machine learning”

What it gives back to you

You get a short profile in the chat: the channel title, description, subscriber count, creation date, and posting rate. If you ask for similar channels, you get a list of names with optional subscriber numbers. You can also ask for the raw data in a structured format if you want to copy it into a spreadsheet.

Before you start

What you need

  • A free API key from RapidAPI (a kind of password for apps; the site gives you one for free, no card needed)
  • Node.js installed on your computer (the free runtime that runs this helper)

Good to know

Each lookup uses paid API requests on your RapidAPI account, so watch your usage if you have a free tier.
