MCP Access Point

Connect your AI to existing web services and APIs without changing any of their code.

MCP Access Point is a small helper program that sits between your AI assistant and web services you already use. It lets your AI talk to those services even if they were never built for AI. This is handy if you or your team have an internal tool or public API and want your AI to use it.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to ordinary web services, the kind that speak in web addresses and web requests. Once it is running, your AI can look things up or do things in those services when you ask.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something that needs information from a web service. Your AI passes the request to MCP Access Point. The access point translates that request into a normal web call and sends it to the service you configured, like a weather API or an internal tool. The service answers, and the access point translates the answer back into something your AI understands. You then see the result in your chat, as if the AI had looked it up itself.

What you can do with it

  • Let your AI call an existing web service without changing that service
  • Connect several services at once and reach each one by its own address
  • Point your AI at a service described by an OpenAPI file, locally or online
  • Add or update service settings while the access point is running
  • Use Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code, Trae or MCP Inspector as your AI client
  • Run it on your own computer or in Docker

Try asking your AI

  • “What is the weather at latitude 40.7 and longitude -74.0?”
  • “Look up the pet with id 5 in the pet store service”
  • “Ask service-1 for its current status”
  • “List what services are available through the access point”

What it gives back to you

You get the answer in your chat, usually as text or a small list. If the service returns structured data, the AI will summarize it for you. If you asked it to change something, it will tell you what it did. You do not see the behind-the-scenes web calls unless something goes wrong.

Before you start

What you need

  • A web service or API you want your AI to reach
  • An OpenAPI description of that service, or a custom route setup
  • Rust and Cargo, or Docker, to run the access point
  • An MCP client like Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code, Trae or MCP Inspector

Good to know

It can send real requests to your services, so check your config and any API keys before pointing it at live systems.

Install it with your AI

Add MCP Access Point to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check MCP Access Point, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
