mneme memory server

by TheGoatPsy

Your AI can save and search plain markdown notes of your work sessions, so it stops forgetting yesterday.

mneme is a memory helper for Claude Code and other AI coding tools. It saves a short note about each work session as a plain markdown file in a folder you own, then lets your AI search those notes later. It is handy if you are tired of re-explaining the same project details every morning.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you and forgets everything when the session ends. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to a folder of markdown notes on your own computer, called a vault. When you ask about past work, the AI uses this helper to look through those notes and answer.

What this MCP server does

You work in Claude Code or another AI tool as usual. When a session ends, mneme quietly writes a short markdown note about what happened into a folder you choose. Later, you ask your AI something like what did we decide about the login page, and the AI uses mneme to search those notes. You get back the matching notes, with dates and file names, right in the chat. Nothing is sent to the cloud unless you turn that on yourself.

What you can do with it

  • Save a short markdown note about each work session automatically
  • Search your past notes by keyword, date, or type
  • Recall full notes from a specific session or day
  • Write or update a markdown section in your vault
  • Summarize notes about a topic, grouped by folder
  • Show a timeline of notes about a subject in order
  • Load a preflight summary of recent work at the start of a session

Try asking your AI

  • “What did we decide about the database schema last week?”
  • “Show me the notes from yesterday's session about the login page”
  • “Summarize everything in my vault about the payment feature”
  • “Write a note in today's session file saying the API key rotation is done”

What it gives back to you

You get back lists of matching notes with their titles, dates, and file paths. Sometimes you get the full text of a note, or a short summary grouped by folder. The AI shows these in the chat as normal text, so you can read them right away. If it writes a note, it tells you which file it changed.

Before you start

What you need

  • Python and pipx installed on your computer
  • A folder on your computer to use as your vault (mneme can create one)
  • Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity, or another MCP-compatible AI tool

Good to know

mneme can write and change files in your vault, so keep a backup or use git if those notes matter to you.

Install it with your AI

Add mneme memory server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check mneme memory server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
