Engrim MCP server
by timgordontg
Give your AI a local memory so it remembers your project decisions across chats and tools.
Engrim is a memory helper for AI coding assistants. It saves the important things about your project, like decisions and rules, in a file on your own computer. Then any assistant you use can pick up where you left off, even after you clear the chat.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat and forgets everything when the session ends. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something useful. This one connects your AI to a local memory store called Engrim, kept in a single file on your machine. When you ask your AI something, it can look things up in that memory or save new notes there for you.
What this MCP server does
You work with your AI as usual and it makes decisions about your project. Engrim quietly saves those decisions, facts, and your preferences into a local database file. When you start a new chat, it hands your AI a short summary of the most important notes so it knows where you left off. If you ask about something from before, your AI searches that memory and brings back the relevant pieces. You can also clear the chat anytime and your AI will reload the key context on the next session.
What you can do with it
- Remember project decisions across different AI tools
- Reload your key context after clearing a chat
- Search past notes by keyword or by meaning
- Save new decisions and rules as you work
- Check the health of your memory setup
- Repair broken connections automatically
- Keep everything on your own computer with no cloud
Try asking your AI
- “What did we decide about the database schema last week?”
- “Save this rule: we always use tabs, not spaces”
- “Remind me where we left off on the login feature”
- “Search my memory for anything about the payment flow”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in plain chat, like a short summary of a past decision or a list of matching notes. When it saves something, it confirms the note was stored. It can also show health reports with counts of saved memories and whether your setup is working. Everything stays local, so nothing is sent to a cloud service.
Before you start
What you need
- Python installed on your computer
- The engrim program installed with pip
- An AI coding tool like Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex
Good to know
It saves notes about your project on your computer, so be careful not to store passwords or private keys in memory.
Install it with your AI
Add Engrim MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Engrim MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,609 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Developers and anyone who uses AI coding assistants on a project over many sessions and wants them to remember decisions.
