Transloadit MCP server

by transloadit

Let your AI run media jobs like video encoding, image resizing, and document conversion through Transloadit.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Resize this image to 800 pixels wide and add our logo”, the Transloadit MCP server works in steps: send your file, then run the job, then get the result, and you get back link to your finished file.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Transloadit, a service that processes media files for you. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI in plain words to resize an image, convert a video, or turn a document into another format, and it will send the job off for you. It is handy for anyone who deals with lots of pictures, videos, or documents and would rather not click through a website each time.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Transloadit, so it can start media jobs and check on them for you. You just ask in normal words, and the helper does the technical part in the background.

What this MCP server does

You tell your AI what you want done, like resize this image or convert this video. The AI passes your request to this helper, which talks to Transloadit on your behalf. Transloadit runs the job using its ready-made processing tools, called Robots. The helper then reports back the status and the results, so you can see what happened right in the chat.

What you can do with it

  • Resize, crop, or add a watermark to images
  • Encode videos into formats like HLS, H.264, or VP9
  • Convert documents from one file type to another
  • Run OCR to pull text out of images or scanned pages
  • Transcribe audio or video into text
  • Start a media job and check its status
  • List the available processing tools and templates

Try asking your AI

  • “Resize this image to 800 pixels wide and add our logo watermark”
  • “Convert this video to H.264 and let me know when it is done”
  • “Run OCR on this scanned PDF and give me the text”
  • “List the Transloadit templates I have available”

What it gives back to you

You get back answers in the chat, like the status of a job, a list of templates, or a link to the finished file. If you ask for a job to run, the helper tells you when it is finished and where the result lives. It can also show you the steps a job used and any warnings. You do not get the file itself pasted into the chat, just the details and links.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Transloadit account with an API key and secret (these are like a username and password for apps, and Transloadit gives them to you in your account settings)
  • Node.js installed if you want to run the helper on your own computer
  • An AI app that supports MCP servers, like Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex CLI

Good to know

Running media jobs can use up your Transloadit account credits, which may cost money, so keep an eye on what you ask it to do.

Install it with your AI
