After Effects MCP server
by a-y-ibrahim
Lets your AI build, inspect and render Adobe After Effects projects for you, including Arabic text.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to Adobe After Effects on your own computer. You describe what you want in plain words, and the AI sets up compositions, layers, effects and renders inside After Effects. It is handy for motion designers, video editors and anyone who uses After Effects but finds the scripting side slow or confusing.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app. This one connects your AI to Adobe After Effects on your machine, so the AI can look at your project and make changes there when you ask. You stay in charge: the AI works through After Effects, and you see the results in your project.
What this MCP server does
You tell your AI what you want, for example a new composition with a title and a fade. The AI sends that request to this helper, which passes it into After Effects through a small panel you keep open. After Effects does the work, like creating layers, applying effects or starting a render. The helper sends the result back, so the AI can tell you what happened or show you a picture of a frame. You can also ask it to render in the background so your After Effects window stays free.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Create compositions and set their size, length and frame rate
- Add text layers, including Arabic text that is set right to left automatically
- Apply effects and presets, and adjust their settings
- Add keyframes and expressions to animate layers
- Inspect a composition or a layer to see its exact current state
- Render a frame as an image so the AI can look at its own work
- Start a render in the background without freezing the After Effects window
Try asking your AI
- “Create a 1920x1080 composition called Intro, 10 seconds long”
- “Add a text layer that says مرحبا بالعالم and make it fade in over one second”
- “Show me a frame of the current composition so I can check the layout”
- “Render this composition in the background and tell me when it is done”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat: lists of layers, comps or effects, short summaries of what changed, and numbers like frame counts or render progress. When you ask to see a frame, it sends back an image so you can look at it right there. If you start a render, it reports the status until it finishes. Every change happens inside your After Effects project, so you can undo it there.
Before you start
What you need
- Adobe After Effects 2022 or later, on Windows or macOS
- Node.js 18 or newer installed on the same computer
- An MCP client such as Claude Code or Claude Desktop
- Scripting allowed in After Effects, and the mcp-bridge panel kept open
Good to know
It can change your After Effects project and start renders, so save your work first and check the result before you rely on it.
Install it with your AI
Add After Effects MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check After Effects MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Motion designers, video editors and content creators who use After Effects and want to speed up repetitive setup, text and rendering work with an AI assistant.
