Video Edit MCP server
by Aditya2755
Lets your AI trim, merge, add effects and audio to videos, and download clips from YouTube for you.

This is a small helper that gives your AI the ability to edit video and audio files on your computer. You describe what you want in plain words, and it does the cutting, joining, and sound work for you. It is handy for anyone who makes short videos, clips, or social media content but does not want to learn a full editing program.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot touch your video files. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill. This one connects your AI to video and audio editing tools on your machine, so when you ask it to trim a clip or add music, it can actually do it.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like trim this video or add background music. Your AI passes that request to this helper program. The helper uses video and audio tools on your computer to do the actual work, like cutting, joining, changing speed, or mixing sound. It can also download videos from YouTube for you. When it is done, it tells your AI where the finished file is, and your AI tells you.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Trim a video to just the part you want
- Join several clips into one file
- Add text, images, or a logo on top of a video
- Change the speed, fade in or out, or make it black and white
- Extract the sound from a video or replace it with new music
- Download a video from YouTube
- Convert a video to a different format
Try asking your AI
- “Trim my video from 10 seconds to 60 seconds and save it as a new file”
- “Add the song background.mp3 to my clip and fade the music out at the end”
- “Put the text Hello World in the top left corner of my video”
- “Download this YouTube video and save it to my Downloads folder”
What it gives back to you
You get back a short answer in the chat, usually telling you the finished file was saved and where. Sometimes it also shows you basic details about a video, like its length or size. The actual video file lands on your computer, not inside the chat.
Before you start
What you need
- Python 3.10 or newer installed on your computer
- The uv tool installed (the README shows a one-line command to get it)
- The Claude desktop app or Cursor, set up to use MCP servers
Good to know
It edits and can overwrite files on your computer, so keep backups of your original videos before letting it work on them.
