Skill Ninja MCP server
by aktsmm
Lets your AI find, install and manage AI agent skills from GitHub inside your project.

Skill Ninja is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to a library of AI skills. A skill is just a text file called SKILL.md that tells your AI how to do a certain job well. If you keep asking your AI to do the same kind of task over and over, this server helps you find ready-made instructions for it and drop them into your project.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something outside the chat. This one connects your AI to GitHub, where people share SKILL.md files, and to a local index of those skills on your computer. So when you ask for a skill, your AI can search, download and place it for you instead of you hunting through GitHub by hand.
What this MCP server does
You tell your AI what you need, for example find skills for Azure work. Your AI passes that request to Skill Ninja. Skill Ninja looks through its local index of skills, and if you want, it also searches GitHub for repositories that contain SKILL.md files. When you pick one, it downloads the file and installs it into your project folder. It can also list what is already installed, remove skills you no longer want, and suggest skills based on what is already in your workspace.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Search a local index of skills by keyword
- Search GitHub for repositories that contain SKILL.md files
- Install a skill into your project folder
- List the skills already installed in your project
- Remove a skill you no longer need
- Suggest skills based on what is in your workspace
- Add a GitHub repository as a new source of skills
- Refresh the local skill index from your sources
Try asking your AI
- “Find skills for Azure work”
- “Install the webapp-testing skill from GitHub Awesome Copilot”
- “What skills are installed in this project?”
- “Search GitHub for MCP skills”
- “Recommend skills for this workspace”
What it gives back to you
You get back plain answers in the chat. A search gives you a list of skill names with a short description and where each one comes from. An install tells you which skill was added and where it was placed. A list shows what is already in your project, and a recommendation gives you a few suggestions with reasons based on your files.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js installed on your computer
- The Claude desktop app, Cursor, or VS Code with MCP support
- Optional: a GitHub token (a kind of password from GitHub) if you want to search GitHub more often without hitting limits
Good to know
It can write files into your project folder, so only point it at folders you are happy to have changed, and use the trusted workspace setting to keep it inside safe places.
Install it with your AI
Add Skill Ninja MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Skill Ninja MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
People who use an AI assistant every day and want to reuse good instructions instead of writing them from scratch, especially developers and anyone working in a project folder.
