PDF Toolkit MCP server
by AryanBV
Lets your AI read, create, merge, split, fill and protect PDF files for you.

This is a helper that gives your AI assistant the ability to work with PDF files. It can read them, make new ones from your notes, join several into one, and even lock them with a password. It is handy if you deal with contracts, reports, invoices or forms and wish your AI could just handle the file for you.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot open a file on your computer or make a new one. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, and here that skill is working with PDFs. Once it is connected, your AI can read a PDF, create one, or change one when you ask in plain words.
What this MCP server does
You tell your AI what you want in normal language, like 'make a PDF from this report' or 'merge these three files'. Your AI then uses this helper, which does the actual work on the PDF file on your computer. The helper reads the file, changes it, or builds a new one, and sends the result back. You get an answer in the chat, and often a new PDF file saved where you asked. Everything runs on your own machine and works offline.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Create a PDF from Markdown text, with headings, tables and lists
- Merge several PDFs into one file
- Split or delete pages from a PDF
- Fill in form fields and lock the values in place
- Add a password to protect a PDF
- Add page numbers, a watermark or a QR code
- Read scanned PDFs by turning pages into images your AI can look at
Try asking your AI
- “Create a PDF from this Markdown report and save it to my desktop”
- “Merge these three PDFs into one file called combined.pdf”
- “Find every mention of indemnification in contract.pdf”
- “Encrypt report.pdf with the password secure123”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, like the text inside a PDF, a list of form fields, or the page numbers where a word appears. When you ask it to make or change a file, it saves a new PDF where you said and tells you what it did. It also reports things like which form fields it kept, renamed or dropped. For scanned documents, it can show pages as images your AI reads directly.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js 20 or newer installed on your computer
- An MCP client such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code with Copilot, or Windsurf
Good to know
It can change or delete pages and overwrite files, so keep a backup of important PDFs before you let your AI edit them.
Install it with your AI
Add PDF Toolkit MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check PDF Toolkit MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who works with PDFs day to day, like office admins, accountants, HR staff, legal assistants and small business owners.
