ByteAsk Embedded MCP server
by ByteAsk
Lets your AI look up exact facts from embedded and firmware reference docs, with page citations.

ByteAsk Embedded MCP is a helper that connects your AI to a library of embedded and firmware reference documents. When your AI needs an exact register value, a Modbus function code, or a datasheet detail, it can look it up here instead of guessing. It is handy for anyone writing firmware, drivers, or protocol code.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to a service. This one connects your AI to ByteAsk Embedded Docs, a searchable collection of embedded and firmware reference material. Once connected, your AI can ask that collection for exact snippets when you need a real fact, not a guess.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question about embedded or firmware details, like a register offset or a Modbus code. Your AI passes your question to this helper. The helper searches the ByteAsk document collection and finds the most relevant passages. It sends back the exact wording from the source, along with the document title and page number. If nothing matches well enough, it tells your AI there is no confident match, so your AI does not make something up.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Look up Modbus function codes and register details
- Find SunSpec points and IEEE 1547 thresholds
- Check SCPI commands and MCU register offsets
- Get verbatim snippets with page citations
- Expand a result to see the full source section
- Ask for a missing document to be added to the collection
Try asking your AI
- “What Modbus function code writes multiple registers?”
- “Find the SunSpec point for maximum output power”
- “What is the SCPI command to read the output voltage?”
- “Show me the register offset for the ADC control register on this MCU”
What it gives back to you
You get back short, quoted passages from the source documents. Each one shows the document title, the section and page number, and the exact wording. If nothing is found, you get a clear no match message instead of a made-up answer. You can also ask to expand a result to see the full section it came from.
Before you start
What you need
- For the hosted version: nothing to install, just the endpoint URL
- For the local version: Python 3.10 or newer and the uv tool
- An MCP client like Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor
Good to know
The local version ships with only a few sample records, so for real work you want the hosted endpoint or your own document collection.
Install it with your AI
Add ByteAsk Embedded MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check ByteAsk Embedded MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Firmware engineers, embedded developers, and anyone writing driver or protocol code who needs exact facts from reference documents.
