TiDB MCP server
by c4pt0r
Lets your AI look at your TiDB database tables and run queries for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to a TiDB database. TiDB is a database that lives in the cloud, and this helper lets your AI peek at its structure and ask it questions. It is handy if you already keep data in TiDB and want to explore it without writing database code yourself.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to your TiDB database, so the AI can look at your tables and run queries there when you ask. You set it up once, and after that your AI just uses it in the background.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your TiDB data, like what tables you have or how many rows are in one of them. The AI passes that request to this helper program. The helper talks to your TiDB database over the internet and gets the answer. Then the AI shows you the result in the chat, in plain words or as a small table. You never have to open a database tool yourself.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List the tables in your TiDB database
- Show the columns and types of a table
- Run a read query and show you the rows
- Count rows or sum up values in a table
- Check what a table looks like before you use it
- Answer questions about your data in plain words
Try asking your AI
- “What tables are in my TiDB database?”
- “Show me the columns in the orders table”
- “How many rows are in the users table?”
- “List the 10 most recent records in the events table”
What it gives back to you
It gives back answers in the chat: lists of table names, column names with their types, or rows of data from a query. Numbers like counts and totals come back as plain figures. If something goes wrong, like a wrong password, you get an error message you can act on.
Before you start
What you need
- A free TiDB Cloud account at tidbcloud.com
- A TiDB database cluster with its host, port, username, password and database name
- The uv tool installed on your computer
- The Claude desktop app if you want to use it there
Good to know
This helper can run queries on your real TiDB database, so be careful with anything that changes or deletes data.
Install it with your AI
Add TiDB MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check TiDB MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who keeps data in TiDB and wants to ask questions about it in plain words instead of writing database queries.
