CentralMind Database Gateway MCP server
by centralmind
Lets your AI ask questions about your own database and get answers back in plain chat.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to a database you already have, like PostgreSQL, MySQL, BigQuery or Snowflake. Once it is set up, you can just ask your AI things like how many orders came in last month, and it will look it up for you. It is handy for anyone who works with data but does not want to write database queries by hand.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another app or service. This one connects your AI to your database, so the AI can look things up there when you ask. You set it up once, and after that your AI can reach your data whenever you need it.
What this MCP server does
You point this helper at your database and give it a short instruction, like make me a read-only API. It looks at your tables and a small sample of the data, then builds a set of ready-made questions your AI is allowed to ask. When you later ask your AI something in normal words, the AI picks the right question, the helper runs it against your database, and the answer comes back into your chat. It also tries to spot and hide personal information like names or emails before anything is shared.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Ask your database questions in plain English
- Get summaries and counts from your tables
- Look up a specific record by name or ID
- Chat with a data warehouse like BigQuery or Snowflake
- Hide personal data before it reaches the AI
- Keep a log of what was asked and when
- Use it from Claude Desktop, Cursor or ChatGPT
What it gives back to you
You get answers back in the chat, usually as a short list, a table or a single number. For example, if you ask for the top products, you might see a neat list with product names and totals. It does not change anything in your database, it only reads. Everything shows up right where you are chatting, no separate tool to open.
Before you start
What you need
- A database you can connect to, with its address and login details
- Docker installed on your computer, or the gateway program itself
- An API key from an AI provider like Google Gemini (a kind of password for apps; Google gives you one for free)
Good to know
It reads your database, so make sure the login you give it can only see the data you are comfortable sharing with an AI, and check that personal details are hidden before you start.
Install it with your AI
