PromptSpeak MCP server

by chrbailey

Your AI checks risky actions before doing them, and asks you first when something looks dangerous.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Write a file with my notes and save it”, the PromptSpeak MCP server keeps repeating: AI plans the action, promptSpeak checks it, you approve or reject, action runs or stops, and you get back clear answers in your chat.

PromptSpeak is a safety helper that sits between your AI assistant and the actions it wants to take. Before your AI writes a file, runs a command, or sends a request, PromptSpeak looks at it and decides: go ahead, stop, or wait for your approval. It is handy if you let your AI do real work on your computer or in your accounts and you want a second pair of eyes on the risky parts.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something else. This one gives your AI a guardrail: a place to check its own planned actions before they happen. When your AI wants to do something, it asks PromptSpeak first, and PromptSpeak says yes, no, or hold on, let the human decide.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI to do something, like write a file or run a command. Before doing it, your AI sends the plan to PromptSpeak. PromptSpeak checks the plan against a set of rules, looks for signs the AI is drifting off task, and scans any code for common security mistakes. If everything looks fine, the action goes ahead. If something looks risky, PromptSpeak stops it or puts it in a waiting list so you can approve or reject it yourself.

What you can do with it

  • Check a planned action before your AI runs it
  • Hold risky actions in a queue and wait for your yes or no
  • Approve a held action, sometimes with small changes
  • Reject a held action and stop the AI from trying again
  • Scan code your AI is about to save for common security problems
  • See a log of everything your AI tried to do, allowed or blocked
  • Stop an AI agent completely if it starts behaving strangely

What it gives back to you

You get clear answers in the chat. Sometimes it is a simple yes or no with a short reason. Sometimes it is a list of actions waiting for your decision, with details like which AI asked, what it wanted to do, and why it was held. You also get scan results that point out the exact line and what to fix.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js installed on your computer (the free program that runs this helper)
  • The Claude desktop app or Claude Code, with its settings file open for editing

Good to know

This helper can block or stop your AI's actions, and if you approve a held action it will actually run, so read the details before you say yes.

Install it with your AI

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
