Let your AI read, search and update a shared team knowledge base stored in one place.

AKB is a knowledge base for teams, a bit like a shared wiki or a company handbook. It keeps your notes, documents and tables in one place and gives your AI assistant a way to read and write there. It is handy if you want your AI to remember things across chats and work from your team's real documents instead of guessing.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. It cannot look things up in your company's files or save anything for later. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, in this case a connection to your AKB knowledge base. Once it is connected, your AI can search your notes, read documents and add new ones when you ask.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question or give it a task in plain words. The AI uses this helper to talk to your AKB knowledge base. The helper searches your documents, tables and files, and finds the parts that match. Then the AI reads them and writes an answer back to you in the chat. If you ask it to save something, it can add a new note or update an existing one.

What you can do with it

  • Search your knowledge base with a mix of meaning-based and keyword search
  • Read a document, table or file and summarise it for you
  • Add a new note, report or decision to a collection
  • Update an existing document and keep the old version in history
  • See how documents are linked to each other
  • Browse the folders and documents in a vault
  • Create and query simple tables of structured data

Try asking your AI

  • “Search our engineering wiki for anything about the payment API migration and summarise what you find”
  • “Add a note to the meetings collection with today's decisions about the launch date”
  • “What documents in the handbook are linked to the onboarding checklist”
  • “Show me the history of the pricing spec and what changed last week”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat, usually with the matching text quoted or summarised. For searches you get a short list of documents with their titles and paths. For changes you get a confirmation that the document was saved, plus its new version reference. Tables and files come back as readable content or a link you can open.

Before you start

What you need

  • An AKB knowledge base you can access, either self-hosted or the public demo
  • A personal access token from AKB (a kind of password for apps)
  • An MCP-aware AI client such as Claude Code or Claude Desktop
  • For some clients, the akb-mcp helper installed with Node.js

Good to know

It can change, overwrite and delete documents in your knowledge base, so be careful with anything you would not want altered or removed.

Install it with your AI

Add AKB MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check AKB MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.

Who it's for

Teams and office workers who want their AI assistant to work from shared company documents, meeting notes and internal wikis instead of starting from scratch each time.
