CyberChef MCP server
by doublegate
Lets your AI decode, decrypt, compress and inspect data using CyberChef's 504 built-in tools.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to CyberChef, a well known free toolbox for working with data. CyberChef was made by GCHQ, and it can decode, encode, encrypt, compress and inspect all kinds of files and text. If you ever need to figure out what a strange block of text or a file actually is, this server lets your AI do that work for you.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another tool. This one connects your AI to CyberChef, so when you ask it to decode or inspect something, it can actually run the right CyberChef operation and hand you the result. You do not need to open CyberChef yourself or know which operation to pick.
What this MCP server does
You paste some text or data into the chat and tell your AI what you want to know or do with it. The AI picks the right CyberChef operation, or a chain of them, and asks this helper to run it. The helper runs the operation on your computer and sends the result back. Your AI then shows you the decoded text, the file, the numbers or the answer in the chat. You can also save a chain of steps as a recipe and reuse it later.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Decode Base64, hex, URL encoding and many other formats
- Decrypt data with common methods like AES or XOR
- Compress or decompress files with gzip and similar formats
- Identify what kind of hash you are looking at
- Solve simple classical ciphers and RSA puzzles
- Generate QR codes and render images from data
- Save and reuse multi-step recipes for repeated work
Try asking your AI
- “Decode this Base64 string for me and tell me what it says”
- “What kind of hash is this and can you crack it”
- “This looks like a script someone obfuscated, can you clean it up so I can read it”
- “Take this file, unzip it and show me the JSON inside in a readable form”
What it gives back to you
You get the result of the operation right in the chat: decoded text, a cleaned up script, a list of possible hashes, an image, or a short explanation of what the data is. For bigger jobs you also get a summary of which steps were run. If something fails, the AI tells you what went wrong instead of guessing.
Before you start
What you need
- The Claude desktop app or another AI app that supports MCP servers
- Node.js installed on your computer (the free runtime this server runs on)
Good to know
It can decrypt, decode and inspect private data, so only point it at files and text you are allowed to work with, and remember that saved recipes and results stay on your machine.
Install it with your AI
Add CyberChef MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check CyberChef MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who regularly deals with encoded, encrypted or messy data, like IT support, security analysts, developers and curious office workers.
