Cybersecurity Recon MCP server

by gaoharimran29-glitch

Lets your AI look up domain details, scan ports, check certificates and known security issues for you.

This is a helper program that gives your AI assistant a set of security checking skills. It runs quietly on your own computer and can look up who owns a website, which ports are open, how its certificate is set up, and whether the software has known problems. It is handy for people who do security checks, IT support, or anyone curious about how a website is put together.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something outside the chat. This one connects your AI to security tools like WHOIS, DNS lookups, Nmap port scanning, and certificate checks. When you ask a question, your AI passes it to this helper, the helper does the real network work, and the answer comes back into your chat.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like what ports are open on a domain or who registered it. Your AI sends that request to this helper program running on your machine. The helper then talks to the right service or runs the right tool, such as a WHOIS lookup, a DNS query, or an Nmap scan. It gathers the raw results, tidies them into a clear summary, and hands them back to your AI. Your AI then explains the findings to you in plain language in the chat.

What you can do with it

  • Look up who registered a domain and when it expires
  • List DNS records and find subdomains for a domain
  • Scan a target for open ports and running services
  • Check a website's TLS certificate and see if it is healthy
  • Check email security settings like SPF, DKIM and DMARC
  • Detect which technologies a website uses
  • Look up known security issues for a piece of software and version

Try asking your AI

  • “Who owns example.com and when does it expire?”
  • “What DNS records and subdomains does example.com have?”
  • “Scan example.com for open ports and tell me what services are running.”
  • “Check the TLS certificate for example.com and tell me if anything looks weak.”
  • “Are there any known security issues in Apache 2.4.49?”

What it gives back to you

You get back clear summaries in your chat: domain owner details, lists of DNS records and subdomains, a table of open ports and services, certificate health and ratings, email security scores, detected technologies, and known vulnerability details. Some tools also give a combined report that pulls several checks into one view. The exact format depends on which tool your AI used, but it is always written out for you to read.

Before you start

What you need

  • Python 3.10 or newer
  • Nmap installed on your computer (the port scanning tool)
  • An AbuseIPDB API key if you want to check IP reputation (a free key from their website)
  • The Claude desktop app or another AI app that supports MCP servers

Good to know

Only use this on systems and domains you own or have permission to test, because port scanning and other checks can be seen as hostile activity and may be against the law if you do not have permission.

Install it with your AI

Add Cybersecurity Recon MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Cybersecurity Recon MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
