Giskard Search is a small helper program that gives your AI the ability to search the live web and recent news. You pay a tiny amount for each search, around 10 sats, using a Lightning wallet or crypto on Arbitrum. It is handy if you want fresh answers without signing up for a search subscription.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an outside service. This one connects your AI to web and news search, and it also handles the small payment for each search. So when you ask a question, the AI can go look it up and bring the answer back to you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question that needs fresh information. The AI asks this helper for a payment invoice, which is a small bill for about 10 sats. You pay that bill with a Lightning wallet, or with crypto on Arbitrum if you prefer. Once the payment goes through, the helper runs the search and hands the results back to your AI. Your AI then reads them and writes the answer for you in the chat.

What you can do with it

  • Search the web for current information
  • Search recent news on a topic
  • Get a small payment invoice before each search
  • Pay per search instead of a monthly subscription
  • Report back whether a result was useful
  • Check the service health and uptime

Try asking your AI

  • “Search the web for the latest news about electric cars in Norway”
  • “Find recent news about a company I am researching”
  • “Look up what people are saying online about this new phone”
  • “Search for current exchange rates between euros and dollars”

What it gives back to you

You get the search results back inside your chat, usually as a list of titles, short snippets, and links. Your AI can then summarise them or answer your question in plain words. If you use the report tool, it simply records whether the result was useful.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Lightning wallet with a few sats, or crypto on Arbitrum
  • A phoenixd Lightning node if you run it yourself
  • Docker or Python if you install it yourself

Good to know

Each search costs a small amount of real money in sats or crypto, so keep an eye on how often your AI searches.
