Azure Resource Graph MCP server
by hardik-id
Ask your AI to look up and list your Azure cloud resources across subscriptions.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Azure Resource Graph, the part of Azure that keeps a searchable list of all your cloud resources. Once it is set up, you can just ask your AI things like what virtual machines you have or where they live, instead of clicking around the Azure portal. It is handy for anyone who manages Azure subscriptions and wants quick answers in plain chat.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Azure, specifically to Azure Resource Graph, so it can look up your cloud resources for you. When you ask a question, your AI passes it to this helper, the helper asks Azure, and the answer comes back into your chat.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question about your Azure resources, like which storage accounts you have. The AI sends that request to this helper program running on your computer. The helper signs in to Azure using your existing Azure login and runs a Resource Graph query. Azure sends back the matching resources, and the helper hands them to your AI. Your AI then shows you the list or a short summary right in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List all resources in your Azure subscription
- See the name, type, and location of each resource
- Run your own custom Resource Graph queries
- Check which resources live in which region
- Query a specific subscription by its ID
- Get a quick inventory without opening the Azure portal
Try asking your AI
- “List all my Azure resources”
- “What virtual machines do I have and where are they?”
- “Show me all storage accounts in my subscription”
- “Run this Resource Graph query: Resources | where type == 'microsoft.compute/virtualmachines'”
What it gives back to you
You get back a list of resources, usually with the resource ID, name, type, and location. Your AI may show it as a table or a short summary in the chat. If you run a custom query, you get whatever columns that query asks for. Nothing in Azure is changed, it is read only.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js installed on your computer
- An Azure subscription
- Azure CLI installed and logged in (run az login)
- Your Azure subscription ID
Good to know
It can read details about all resources in your Azure subscription, so only connect it if you are comfortable with your AI seeing that inventory.
Install it with your AI
Add Azure Resource Graph MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
