This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Product Hunt, the site where new products get launched and voted on every day. Once it is set up, you can just ask your AI things like what launched today or what people are saying about a product, and it will go and find out. It is handy if you follow new tools, do market research, or write about startups.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a little helper program that gives your AI one new skill, in this case a connection to Product Hunt. You install this helper on your own computer, tell it your Product Hunt access token, and then your AI can ask it questions about Product Hunt whenever you do. Your AI stays the same, it just gains the ability to look things up on Product Hunt for you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question about Product Hunt, like what is trending or who made a certain post. Your AI passes that request to this helper program running on your computer. The helper then talks to the official Product Hunt service using your access token, and fetches the matching posts, comments, topics, collections or user profiles. It hands the results back to your AI, and your AI turns them into a normal answer in the chat. You never have to visit the Product Hunt website yourself.

What you can do with it

  • Look up details about a specific Product Hunt post by its name or link
  • List trending or featured posts, filtered by topic or date
  • Read the comments on a post and see what people are saying
  • Search Product Hunt topics and see which ones exist
  • Check a user profile and the posts they have shared
  • Browse collections of related products
  • See who you are logged in as and check the connection is working

Try asking your AI

  • “What products are trending on Product Hunt today?”
  • “Show me the comments on the most upvoted post this week”
  • “Find Product Hunt topics about artificial intelligence”
  • “What has this user launched on Product Hunt?”

What it gives back to you

You get back plain answers in your chat: lists of posts with their names, taglines, vote counts and links, or a summary of comments, or details about a user or a topic. If you ask for a specific post, your AI can show its description and the discussion around it. Everything arrives as normal text you can read, copy or ask follow-up questions about.
