kaeru MCP server
by LamantinAI
Give your AI a memory of your projects, so it remembers what you were doing and what is still open.
kaeru is a memory helper for AI assistants. It keeps a private notebook of your projects on your own computer, so your AI can pick up where you left off instead of starting from zero every time. It is handy if you work on the same projects across many days and chats.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It forgets everything the moment you close the window. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill. This one, kaeru, gives your AI a memory: a place to write down what you decided, what you tried, and what is still waiting, and to read it back later when you return to a project.
What this MCP server does
You tell your AI to remember something, like a decision you made or a task that is still open. Your AI passes that to kaeru, which writes it into a private notebook on your computer, sorted by project. Next time you open that project, your AI asks kaeru what was going on, and kaeru hands back a short summary: what you were working on, what is still open, and what is overdue. You can also ask your AI to look up an old note, follow how one idea led to another, or see what a note said last week.
What you can do with it
- Remember decisions, tasks and ideas between chats
- See what is still open and overdue when you return to a project
- Look up an old note even if you forgot its exact name
- Follow the chain of reasoning from one idea to another
- See what a note said at an earlier point in time
- Export a project's notes as plain markdown files
- Share settled notes with a team through an optional cloud
Try asking your AI
- “What was I working on in the auth-rewrite project last time?”
- “Remember that we decided to use a platform-aware token policy.”
- “Show me everything still open in this project, overdue first.”
- “What did the note about token expiry say a week ago?”
What it gives back to you
You get back short, readable answers in the chat. Usually that is a summary of a project: what you were doing, which tasks are open, which ones are late, and which ideas are settled. If you ask for a specific note, you get its text and when it was written. If you ask for a chain, you get the steps in order with a short explanation.
Before you start
What you need
- A computer where you can run a small program (the kaeru daemon)
- An AI tool that supports MCP, such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or opencode
- Rust and a C++ toolchain if you build it from source (the README explains this)
Good to know
kaeru keeps a private notebook of your work on your computer, so treat it like any notes file, and if you turn on the optional team cloud, remember that settled notes can be shared with others.
Install it with your AI
Add kaeru MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check kaeru MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,609 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
People who work on the same projects over many days and want their AI to remember the context, especially developers and anyone juggling several long-running tasks.
