BigQuery MCP server
by LucasHild
Lets your AI look at your BigQuery tables and run SQL queries for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to BigQuery, Google's service for storing and querying large amounts of data in tables. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI questions about your data in normal words, and it will look at the tables and run the queries for you. It is handy for anyone who works with data in BigQuery but does not want to write SQL by hand every time.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to BigQuery, so it can list your tables, look at their structure, and run queries against them. You just ask in plain words, and the helper does the talking to BigQuery behind the scenes.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your BigQuery data, like which tables exist or what a table contains. The AI passes your request to this helper program. The helper talks to BigQuery using your project details and runs the query or lookup. Then the result comes back to the AI, which explains it to you in the chat. You never have to touch the BigQuery website yourself.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List all the tables in your BigQuery project
- Describe the columns and types of a specific table
- Run a SQL query and get the results back
- Ask questions about your data in plain words and get answers
- Check what data exists before writing a query
- Limit the helper to specific datasets so it only sees what you choose
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, written out in normal words or as a small table. For a list of tables, you see the names. For a schema, you see the column names and types. For a query, you see the rows that came back, or a short explanation if something went wrong.
Before you start
What you need
- A Google Cloud account with BigQuery set up
- The project ID and location of your BigQuery data
- Permission to access the data, usually through a service account key file or your default Google credentials
- The Claude desktop app, Claude Code, or Cursor to add the helper to
Good to know
This helper can run any SQL query you ask for, including ones that change or delete data, so be careful with what you ask it to do and check before running anything that modifies your tables.
Install it with your AI
Add BigQuery MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check BigQuery MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who works with data stored in BigQuery, like analysts, data teams, and office workers who need quick answers without writing SQL.
