DataPulse Malaysia MCP server

by r3dz4r

Check Malaysian public datasets for freshness, licence, and provenance before your AI cites them.

DataPulse is a free, read-only helper that keeps an eye on official Malaysian open data. It watches sources like data.gov.my, Bank Negara, and DOSM, and tells you how fresh each dataset is, what licence it carries, and whether the record has changed. It is handy for anyone who quotes Malaysian figures and wants to know the data behind them is still good.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to DataPulse, which watches Malaysian public datasets. Once connected, your AI can look up a dataset's freshness, licence, and history for you, instead of guessing.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like whether a Malaysian fuel price dataset is still current. The AI sends that question to the DataPulse helper. The helper checks its catalogue of 418 official datasets and looks at when each one was last probed, what licence applies, and whether anything changed. It sends back a plain answer with the evidence. You get the freshness status, licence, and provenance in the chat, so you can decide whether to trust the number.

What you can do with it

  • Search 418 official Malaysian datasets by name or topic
  • Check whether a dataset is fresh, aging, stale, or discontinued
  • Look up the licence that applies to a dataset
  • See if a dataset's structure or record count has drifted
  • Verify the signed evidence behind a health observation
  • Find datasets that are stale or deteriorating
  • Get a trust verdict for a specific dataset

Try asking your AI

  • “Is the fuel price dataset from data.gov.my still fresh?”
  • “What licence applies to the BNM overnight policy rate dataset?”
  • “Which Malaysian transit datasets have gone stale this month?”
  • “Show me the provenance and evidence for the DOSM population dataset.”

What it gives back to you

You get back a clear answer in the chat: the dataset name, its health status, the licence, and when it was last checked. For deeper questions, it can return lists of datasets, a trust verdict, or the signed evidence behind an observation. It can also show you a summary of how many datasets are fresh, aging, or stale.

Before you start

What you need

  • An AI app that supports MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Cursor, or Cline
  • The DataPulse MCP endpoint URL, which is free and needs no password

Good to know

This server is read-only and cannot change anything, but it only proves when DataPulse observed a source, not that the government figure itself is correct.
