SerpApi MCP server
by serpapi
Lets your AI run real searches on Google, YouTube, eBay and more, plus weather and stock lookups.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to SerpApi, a service that runs search queries for you. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI things like the weather in London or what people are saying about a product, and it will go and find the answers. It is handy for anyone who uses ChatGPT or Claude for research, shopping comparisons or quick fact checks.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to SerpApi, which runs searches on Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, YouTube, eBay and others. So when you ask a question that needs fresh information, your AI can use this helper to look it up for you.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question that needs current information, like the weather in Paris or reviews of a laptop. Your AI sends that request to this helper, which passes it to SerpApi. SerpApi runs the search on the engine you want, such as Google or YouTube, and sends the results back. The helper then hands those results to your AI, which reads them and writes a plain answer for you in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Search Google, Bing, Yahoo and DuckDuckGo for current results
- Look up videos on YouTube by topic
- Check prices and listings on eBay or Amazon
- Get real-time weather for a city
- Look up stock market data for a company
- Find news articles about a topic
- Search academic papers on Google Scholar
Try asking your AI
- “What is the weather in Tokyo this week?”
- “Find me recent news about electric cars”
- “Show me the price of a vintage mechanical keyboard on eBay”
- “What is the current stock price for Apple?”
What it gives back to you
You get a written answer in the chat, based on real search results. Depending on what you asked, that might be a short summary, a list of links, prices, weather numbers or stock figures. Your AI reads the raw results and explains them to you in plain words.
Before you start
What you need
- A SerpApi account and API key (a kind of password for apps; you get it free from your SerpApi dashboard, though searches may use paid credits)
- An AI app that supports MCP servers, like Claude Desktop or Claude Code
Good to know
Each search uses your SerpApi account and may count against your plan's search credits, so heavy use can cost money or hit rate limits.
Install it with your AI
Add SerpApi MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check SerpApi MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who uses an AI assistant for research, shopping, news or quick fact checks and wants fresh answers instead of old ones.
