Pond MCP server

by tenequm

Lets your AI search and reopen your old coding sessions from Claude Code, Codex and other tools.

Pond is a small tool that keeps a copy of every AI chat session you have run, no matter which app you used. It saves them in one place you own, and makes them searchable. It is handy if you keep asking yourself "didn't we solve this before?" and can't find the old conversation.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you about what is in front of it right now. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one extra skill or connection. This one connects your AI to your own archive of past sessions, so it can look things up there for you. When you ask a question, your AI quietly asks Pond, and Pond answers from your saved history.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like "how did we fix this before?". Your AI sends that question to Pond through this MCP connection. Pond searches the sessions it has already saved from your computer, using plain keyword search by default. It finds the matching conversations and sends the relevant parts back. Your AI then reads them and answers you, or continues the old session where you left off.

What you can do with it

  • Search all your past AI sessions in one place
  • Find how you solved a problem in an earlier conversation
  • Continue an old session in a different AI tool
  • Ask structured questions with read-only SQL
  • Keep a full copy of every session in storage you own
  • Run the search automatically on a schedule
  • Share one archive across several machines

Try asking your AI

  • “check in pond how we solved this before, then apply the same fix here”
  • “where we left off yesterday - check pond, then continue”
  • “are you sure that won't break X? check in pond how we struggled with exactly this”
  • “search pond for every session where we talked about the retry loop”

What it gives back to you

You get back the matching sessions and the messages inside them, shown as text in your chat. Usually that is a short list of the conversations that fit your question, plus the parts that matter. If you ask for SQL, you get a small table of results. If you ask to continue a session, your AI picks up from there and keeps working.

Before you start

What you need

  • A computer where you have used an AI coding tool like Claude Code or Codex
  • The Pond program installed (Homebrew, Scoop, or a release file)
  • To run pond init once to set up storage and connect it to your AI

Good to know

Pond keeps a full copy of your past sessions, which can include private code and notes, so think about where that storage lives if you point it at a shared or cloud bucket.

Install it with your AI

Add Pond MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Pond MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
