by Thezenmonster

Give your AI coding assistant a memory that knows which rules are still true and which are outdated.

agentmem is a memory helper for AI coding assistants like Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex. It saves the rules, bugs, and decisions your assistant learns, and it keeps track of which ones are still trustworthy. It is handy if you are tired of your assistant repeating old mistakes or following rules you changed months ago.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI assistant can only chat. It forgets everything when the session ends. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your assistant a new skill, here a shared memory it can read and write. When you ask your assistant something, it can quietly check this memory, save new notes, and mark old rules as outdated.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI assistant to remember something, like a bug fix or a decision. The assistant uses this helper to save it as a memory with a trust level. Later, when you ask a question, the helper searches those memories and gives back the most trustworthy ones first. It also warns you when two memories contradict each other, or when a memory looks stale. You get a cleaner, more reliable assistant that stops repeating the same old mistakes.

What you can do with it

  • Save a bug fix so your assistant never repeats it
  • Mark a rule as validated, active, or just a guess
  • Search your saved memories by topic
  • Get a short recall that fits your token budget
  • Find memories that contradict each other
  • Spot memories that are old or based on changed files
  • Check the overall health of your memory system

Try asking your AI

  • “Remember that we never apply loudnorm to the final mix”
  • “What do we know about audio mixing rules?”
  • “Are there any conflicting decisions about voice settings?”
  • “Show me memories that have not been updated in 30 days”

What it gives back to you

You get back short lists of memories, each with a title, a type, and a trust status. The assistant may also show you a health score, a list of conflicts, or a list of stale items. When you save something, you get a confirmation that it was stored. Everything appears right in your chat window.

Before you start

What you need

  • Python installed on your computer
  • The quilmem package with the mcp extra (pip install quilmem[mcp])
  • An MCP client like Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex

Good to know

It can change or delete memories, so be careful when asking your assistant to remove or deprecate things you might still need.
