DolphinDB MCP server
by tradercjz
Lets your AI look inside a DolphinDB database and run queries for you in plain chat.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to DolphinDB, a database used for storing and analysing large amounts of data. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI questions about what is inside that database instead of clicking around yourself. It is handy for anyone who works with data but does not want to write database code by hand.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot see your files or your databases. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one new skill, and here that skill is talking to a DolphinDB database. So when you ask a question, the AI passes it to this helper, the helper asks DolphinDB, and the answer comes back into your chat.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your DolphinDB data. The AI sends that request to this helper program running on your machine or server. The helper connects to your DolphinDB instance and looks up the databases, the tables, or the numbers you asked about. It can also run a query script you or the AI wrote. Then it hands the result back, and your AI explains it to you in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List all the databases available in your DolphinDB instance
- List the tables inside a specific database
- Check how much disk space a table is using
- Run a DolphinDB query script and get the results back
- Ask follow-up questions about the numbers it returns
- Explore an unfamiliar database without writing code yourself
Try asking your AI
- “What databases are available in my DolphinDB?”
- “List the tables inside the database called market_data”
- “How much disk space is the trades table using?”
- “Run this query on DolphinDB and show me the first 20 rows”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in your chat: a list of database names, a list of table names, a disk usage number, or the rows a query returned. The AI usually turns raw results into a short readable summary. If something goes wrong, like a wrong table name, you will see an error message you can ask the AI to explain.
Before you start
What you need
- Python installed on your computer
- Access to a DolphinDB instance (a host, port, username and password)
- The connection details set as environment variables, or the defaults if you are running DolphinDB locally
Good to know
The query tool can run DolphinDB scripts, so a careless or wrong script could change or delete data in your database.
Install it with your AI
Add DolphinDB MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check DolphinDB MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Data analysts, engineers and office staff who already use DolphinDB and want to explore or query it through an AI chat instead of writing scripts.
