VARGG MCP server
by var-gg
Lets your AI look up and reuse your team's agreed variable names and terms while it writes code.

VARGG is a place where your team keeps a shared list of names for things in your code, like TOTAL_COUNT or USER_ACCOUNT, along with what each one means. This MCP server connects your AI assistant to that list, so the code it writes uses the same names your team already agreed on. It is handy if you work in Cursor and keep seeing the same idea written five different ways.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper that gives your AI one extra skill, in this case a connection to your VARGG project. Once it is connected, your AI can ask VARGG things like "do we already have a name for this?" and get a real answer from your team's list. Then it uses that name in the code it writes for you.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI to write or change some code, and it quietly checks your VARGG project for names your team already uses. The helper sends that question to VARGG, which looks through the variables saved for that project. If a matching name exists, your AI uses it instead of inventing a new one. If nothing matches, your AI can add a new variable to the project so the next person finds it too. You end up with code that fits your team's habits without having to explain them every time.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Search a project for variables related to a word or idea
- Create new variables with a name and a short definition
- List everything saved in a project, a page at a time
- Remove variables your team no longer wants
- Create a new project and give it a description
- Update a project's name or description
- Open the project admin page to manage people and permissions
Try asking your AI
- “Search for variables related to user account in the E-Commerce Payment project”
- “Create a variable TOTAL_COUNT with the definition total count for abbreviation”
- “List all variables in the Shipping project”
- “Create a new project named Shipping Costs with description delivery fee module”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, not files. A search comes back as a short list of matching names with their definitions, so you can see what already exists. Creating or removing something gives you a short confirmation that it was saved or deleted. Listing a project gives you a page of names and meanings you can scroll through.
Before you start
What you need
- A VARGG account, which you create free at var.gg
- An API key from the VARGG website (a kind of password for apps; you generate it in your account settings)
- Cursor IDE with the MCP settings open
Good to know
This helper can add and delete variables in your team's shared project, so a wrong request can change what everyone else sees.
Install it with your AI
Add VARGG MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check VARGG MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Development teams, especially ones using Cursor, who want everyone to name things the same way across projects.
