Lets your AI read, create, and update your HackMD notes and teams for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to HackMD, the place where you keep your shared notes. Once it is set up, you can just ask your AI in plain words to look at your notes, write a new one, or update an existing one. It is handy if you already use HackMD for meeting notes, drafts, or team documents and want to skip the copy and paste.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one new skill, in this case a connection to HackMD. When you ask something like "list my notes", your AI passes that request to this helper, and the helper talks to HackMD using your account. You never touch the technical parts; you just see the answer in the chat.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something about your HackMD notes. The AI sends that request to this helper program running on your computer or in the cloud. The helper signs in to HackMD with a special token that belongs to your account. It then fetches, creates, or changes notes and teams as you asked. Finally, it sends the result back, and your AI shows it to you in the chat.

What you can do with it

  • List all the notes you own in HackMD
  • Read a specific note by its name or ID
  • Create a new note with a title and content
  • Update the text of an existing note
  • Delete a note you no longer need
  • List the teams you belong to and the notes inside them
  • See your reading history in HackMD

Try asking your AI

  • “List all my HackMD notes.”
  • “Create a new note called Meeting Notes with these bullet points.”
  • “Show me the notes in my first team.”
  • “Update my Project Plan note and add a section called Next Steps.”

What it gives back to you

You get back plain answers in the chat, like a list of note titles, the text of a note, or a short confirmation that a note was created or changed. When you ask for a list, you see the names and IDs so you can pick one. When you ask for a change, the AI usually tells you what it did.

Before you start

What you need

  • A HackMD account
  • A HackMD API token (a kind of password for apps; you create one for free in your HackMD settings)
  • Node.js 18 or newer if you run it on your own computer

Good to know

It can create, change, and delete your HackMD notes, so double check before you let it remove anything, and keep your API token private.

Install it with your AI

Add HackMD MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
