Google Drive MCP server
by A1-x-Tech
Let your AI search, organize, upload, download, export and share your Google Drive files for you.
This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to your Google Drive. Once it is set up, you can just ask in plain words to find a file, tidy a folder, upload something or share a document. It is handy for anyone who keeps work in Drive and would rather ask than click around.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app. This one connects your AI to Google Drive, so it can look things up and do things there when you ask. You stay in charge: it acts on your Drive only through the requests you make.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your Drive, like finding a document or creating a folder. The AI passes that request to this helper. The helper talks to Google Drive using your Google account, then sends the answer back. You see the result in the chat, for example a list of files, a summary, or a note that a folder was created. For changes like moving or deleting, it shows you what it plans to do and waits for your confirmation.
What you can do with it
- Search your Drive and show file details like owner and date
- Create folders and move files into them
- Upload files and convert them into Google Docs
- Download files to a folder on your computer
- Export a Google Doc, Sheet or Slides file to another format
- Share files and folders with people and set their access
- Read, add and resolve comments on documents
- Move files to the trash and restore them if needed
Try asking your AI
- “Find the project roadmap doc in my Drive, export it to Markdown and summarize it.”
- “Show me what's in the Contracts 2025 folder, newest first.”
- “Create a 2026 Reports folder and move the monthly reports into it.”
- “Share the proposal folder with my teammate as a commenter.”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat: lists of files with their names, types, owners and dates, or short summaries of a document you asked about. When it changes something, it tells you what it did, like which folder it created or which files it moved. Downloads save to a path you choose on your computer. Everything shows up as normal chat text you can read and reply to.
Before you start
What you need
- A Google account with the files you want to work with
- Node.js 20 or newer installed on your computer
- An AI app that supports MCP servers, like Claude Desktop, Cursor or VS Code
- A Google Cloud OAuth client (the assistant walks you through creating one)
Good to know
It can change your Drive: it can move, share, trash or permanently delete files, so read the confirmation it shows you before saying yes.
Install it with your AI
Add Google Drive MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Google Drive MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,210 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who keeps work in Google Drive and wants to find, organize or share files by asking instead of clicking, especially office workers, assistants and small teams.
