Web Search MCP server
by AG-Bureau
Lets your AI search the web, read pages, find images, and take screenshots, and tells you what to trust.

This is a helper program that gives your AI a real web search skill. It runs on your own computer and uses your own search setup, not somebody else's. It is handy if you ask your AI to look things up and you want to know where the answer came from and how solid it is.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to a service. This one connects your AI to web search, page reading, images and screenshots, running on your machine. When you ask a question, your AI uses this helper to go look things up and bring answers back to you.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question that needs the web. The AI sends the request to this helper program running on your computer. The helper searches through your own search setup, opens the top pages, and pulls out the useful text. It also keeps track of which search engines answered and which ones failed or gave odd results. Then it hands the answer back to your AI, along with notes about what to be careful about.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Search the web and read the top results in one go
- Read a page by its address, including PDFs and scanned documents
- Find images and get both the image file address and the page it sits on
- Take a screenshot of a page and get its text from the same visit
- Ask a bigger question and get an answer drawn from several sources
- See which search engines were used and which ones did not respond
- Check whether a page really contains what you expected before trusting it
Try asking your AI
- “Search for the latest news about electric car batteries and read the top three pages”
- “Read this page for me and tell me what it says: paste the address here”
- “Find images of the Eiffel Tower at night and show me where each one comes from”
- “Take a screenshot of this page and give me the text on it too”
- “What do different sources say about whether coffee is good for you, and where do they disagree”
What it gives back to you
You get back a list of links with their text, or a summary answer written from several sources. For images, you get the file address and the page address separately. For screenshots, you get a picture plus the text from the same visit. It also tells you which engines answered, which ones failed, and anything it could not confirm, so you know what to trust.
Before you start
What you need
- Docker installed on your computer
- A terminal or command line where you can run a few commands
- A search setup called SearXNG, which this package includes and starts for you
- Optional: an API key from an AI provider if you want the deep search and scanned PDF reading features
Good to know
This server reads pages and takes screenshots on your behalf, so be careful about pointing it at private or sensitive addresses, and remember that web pages can contain wrong or misleading information.
