IMGW Polish Weather MCP server
by bartosz-kuc
Ask your AI for live Polish weather, river levels and storm warnings straight from IMGW.
This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to IMGW, the Polish weather service. Once it is set up, you can just ask about the temperature in Warsaw, river levels in your province, or any active storm warnings, and your AI will fetch the real numbers for you. It is handy for anyone in Poland who plans outdoor work, watches rivers, or wants a plain answer instead of clicking through a weather site.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that runs on your computer and gives your AI one new skill. This helper gives your AI a direct line to IMGW, the Polish weather and water service, so it can look up live readings when you ask. You do not need to understand how it works inside; you just ask a question and the AI talks to this helper behind the scenes.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like what is the temperature in Krakow right now. The AI passes your question to this helper. The helper then calls the public IMGW data feed over the internet and gets the latest readings. It hands the numbers back to your AI, which turns them into a normal sentence for you. For rivers, it also checks each reading against the warning and alarm levels and tells you if a station is normal, in warning, or in alarm.
What you can do with it
- Check the current temperature, wind, humidity and pressure at any IMGW weather station in Poland
- See river water levels, flow and water temperature across the country
- Spot which river stations are above warning or alarm level right now
- Read active IMGW weather warnings for storms, frost, heat, rain or wind
- Look up the list of weather stations to find the right name
- Look up hydrological stations by river or province
- Filter river readings to only the ones that need attention
Try asking your AI
- “What's the temperature in Warsaw right now?”
- “Any active storm warnings in Poland today?”
- “Are there any rivers in Mazowieckie above alarm level?”
- “Show me the water level and flow for the Vistula near Warsaw”
What it gives back to you
You get a short, plain answer in the chat with the numbers you asked for, like temperature, wind speed, humidity or water level. For warnings, you get a list of the active ones with severity and the time window they cover. For rivers, each reading comes with a simple status: normal, warning, or alarm. If you ask for a whole province, you may get a small list of stations instead of a single number.
Before you start
What you need
- Python 3.10 or newer installed on your computer
- The Claude desktop app or Claude Code, so you can add the server
- An internet connection to reach the IMGW public data feed
Good to know
The data comes straight from IMGW's public feed and can be a few minutes old, so do not use it as your only source for safety-critical decisions like flood evacuations.
Install it with your AI
Add IMGW Polish Weather MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check IMGW Polish Weather MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,361 MCP servers here for you.
