GAUGE MCP server

by CHANGCHINFU

Lets your AI check official facts like floods, air quality, and SEC filings, with a Bitcoin-backed receipt.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Is there any flood risk near the Mississippi River right now?”, the GAUGE MCP server reaches USGS, NOAA and SEC EDGAR, and you get back answer and receipt.

GAUGE is a helper that lets your AI look up official facts from places like USGS, NOAA, and the SEC. Each answer comes with a receipt you can check later. It is handy if you need to double-check numbers before you act on them.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to GAUGE, which pulls facts from official sources like USGS and the SEC. Once it is connected, you can ask your AI a question and it will go fetch the answer for you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like whether a river is flooding or what a company just filed. Your AI sends that request to the GAUGE helper. The helper talks to official sources like USGS, NOAA, and SEC EDGAR. It brings back the fact, plus a receipt that proves the record existed at a certain time. You see the answer in your chat, and you can check the receipt later if you want.

What you can do with it

  • Check river levels and flood risk from USGS
  • Look up air quality and drought conditions
  • See what a company just filed with the SEC
  • Cross-check a fact against three sources at once
  • Get a Bitcoin-backed receipt for any record
  • Browse the full list of available signals
  • Verify a receipt without needing the GAUGE server

Try asking your AI

  • “Is there any flood risk near the Mississippi River right now?”
  • “What did Tesla file with the SEC this week?”
  • “Check the air quality and drought conditions in California”
  • “Show me the receipt for that river reading so I can verify it”

What it gives back to you

You get a plain answer in your chat, like a river level or a filing summary. Along with it comes a receipt code you can use to check the record later. Some tools also give you a short list of related facts from other sources. If the data is not available, it tells you honestly and does not charge you.

Before you start

What you need

  • The Claude desktop app or another MCP-compatible app
  • Node.js installed on your computer
  • A small amount of USDC on the Base network if you want paid tools (free tools work without it)

Good to know

Paid tools cost real money in USDC, so use a small dedicated wallet and set a low spending cap.
