Kagi MCP server
by czottmann
Let your AI search the web with Kagi and summarize web pages, videos, or audio for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Kagi, the paid search engine. It lets your AI run Kagi searches and make Kagi summaries of pages, videos, or audio files. It is handy if you already pay for Kagi and want your AI to use it instead of its built-in web search.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Kagi, so it can look things up and make summaries there for you when you ask. You do not need to be technical to use it, you just add it once and then talk to your AI like normal.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question or give it a link. Your AI passes that to this helper program. The helper talks to Kagi using your own Kagi session, the same way your browser does when you are logged in. Kagi sends back search results or a summary, and the helper hands them to your AI. Your AI then shows you the answer in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Search the web through Kagi and get numbered results
- Run several searches at once in one request
- Summarize a web page into a short paragraph
- Summarize a YouTube video or audio file into bullet points
- Get summaries in a language you choose
- Use Kagi instead of your AI's built-in web search
Try asking your AI
- “Who was Time's 2024 person of the year?”
- “Summarize this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sczwaYyaevY”
- “Give me a takeaway summary of this article: https://example.com/some-article”
- “Search Kagi for the latest news about electric cars and summarize the top three results”
What it gives back to you
For searches, you get a numbered list of web results with titles, links, and short snippets. For summaries, you get either a short paragraph or a set of bullet points, depending on what you asked for. Everything shows up right in the chat as normal text. You can then ask follow-up questions about what came back.
Before you start
What you need
- A paid Kagi account
- Your Kagi session token (you copy it from your Kagi settings page)
- Node.js 22 or newer installed on your computer
- The Claude desktop app or Claude Code
Good to know
Your Kagi session token is like a password for your Kagi account, so keep it private and do not paste it where others can see it.
Install it with your AI
Add Kagi MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Kagi MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
People who already pay for Kagi and want their AI assistant to search and summarize with it instead of the default web search.
