Trino MCP server
Let your AI list and query tables in your Trino data warehouse for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Trino, a tool companies use to run queries across large amounts of data. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI questions in plain words and it will look up the answers in your Trino tables. It is handy for anyone who works with data but does not want to write SQL by hand every time.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another system. This one connects your AI to Trino, your data query engine, so it can look up tables and run queries for you. You ask in normal words, and the helper does the technical part behind the scenes.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your data, like which tables exist or what is inside one of them. The AI passes your request to this helper program. The helper talks to your Trino server using your connection details, runs the query, and gets the results back. Then the AI shows you the answer in the chat, in a form you can read. You never have to touch the query language yourself.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List the tables available in your Trino catalog and schema
- Read the contents of a table so you can see sample rows
- Run a SQL query you describe in plain words
- Check what data lives in a specific schema
- Pull numbers or rows out of Trino to answer a question
Try asking your AI
- “What tables are available in my Trino catalog?”
- “Show me the first few rows of the orders table.”
- “How many rows are in the customers table?”
- “Run a query that lists the top 10 products by sales.”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat: a list of table names, a set of rows, or a number. If you asked for table contents, the AI shows you the rows it found. If you asked a question, it gives you the result in plain words or a small table. Everything appears right in the conversation, so you can keep asking follow-up questions.
Before you start
What you need
- Python 3.9 or newer installed on your computer
- The trino and mcp Python packages installed
- Access to a Trino server (host, port, user, catalog, and schema)
- A Trino password if your setup requires one
Good to know
The query tool can run any SQL you ask for, so be careful with queries that change or delete data, and only connect it to data you are allowed to see.
Install it with your AI
Add Trino MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Trino MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who needs to look things up in a Trino data warehouse without writing SQL by hand, such as analysts, ops staff, and business teams.
