SearchForge MCP server
Lets your AI search the web, GitHub, papers, and Hacker News, and turn any web page into clean text.

SearchForge is a free helper that gives your AI a proper search skill. Instead of guessing or making things up, your AI can look things up in real sources like Wikipedia, GitHub, academic papers, and Hacker News. It is handy if you use ChatGPT or Claude for research, writing, or checking facts and want real links to back things up.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an outside service. This one connects your AI to SearchForge, which is a search tool that runs on your own computer. Once it is set up, your AI can ask SearchForge to search or read a page, and then tell you what it found.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question that needs fresh or specific information. Your AI sends that request to SearchForge, which runs quietly on your machine. SearchForge picks the right source for the question, like GitHub for code, Crossref for academic papers, Hacker News for community chatter, or Wikipedia for general facts. It gathers the results, removes duplicates, and hands them back to your AI. Your AI then shows you a tidy list of links and snippets, or a clean text version of a page you asked it to read.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Search the web and get a list of real links with short descriptions
- Search GitHub for code repositories and projects
- Search academic papers and their details through Crossref
- Search Hacker News for community discussions and posts
- Turn any public web page into clean, readable text
- Check which search sources are working and how fast they respond
Try asking your AI
- “Search for the latest open source agent frameworks”
- “Find academic papers about retrieval augmented generation”
- “What are people saying on Hacker News about search engines”
- “Read this page and give me the main points: https://example.com/article”
What it gives back to you
You get back a list of results, each with a title, a link, and a short snippet. If you asked it to read a page, you get the page content turned into clean text you can skim or copy. It can also tell you which sources answered and how long each one took. Everything shows up right in your chat, so you can keep the conversation going.
